![]() We make the paint without solvents or volatile organic compounds (VOC). You can safely paint your home without any fear of breathing in fumes that are harmful to you or your children. We colour our Limewash with natural pigments, this makes our colours completely different, as when light hits the wall the colours look like no other. When you paint with it the only chemical reaction that takes place is the absorption of atmospheric CO2 to convert the lime paint back to lime stone. They are manufactured from calcium carbonate, the same material sea shells are made from. If you are thinking of painting the surround yourself- make sure you totally remove the chrome, paint even more coats than you thought you needed, and be careful to avoid winter roads with sand.BAUWERK Colour Lime Wash Paints are purely mineral based. Yes, I think that maybe totally removing the chrome would have helped the adhesion, however, I personally believe that the DIY rattle can method just isn’t durable enough to last longterm on the front end of a truck. It was chipped in 20+ places and was missing so much paint that I ended up replacing it with a free chrome grill my buddy found on facebook marketplace. ![]() And within about 3 months of painting the surround, I was embarrassed how the front end of my truck looked. It started with small rock chips and quickly escalated to decent sized missing chunks of paint. In those couple months, the paint started to chip like crazy. So all things considered, I was very happy with how it turned out.Ī couple months went by- and my pickup experienced quite a bit of rough winter weather. But when two different painted pieces share one body line, they have to be pretty perfect to match. The hood bulge seemed to not match color as perfect as hoped. That seemed to nicely clean up the egg peeling, I never quite got it to showroom nice, but it did look pretty stinkin’ good for rattle can paint. I layed them on thinly and carefully to make sure there was no dripping or caking.Īfter I finished my clear coat, I noticed some minor egg peeling (for those that don’t know, that means that the paint is not perfectly smooth and therefore does not reflect as deep and rich of a color.) Did some wet sanding, buffing, new layers of clear, and repeated that a couple times. I then spent 3 days straight doing primer, color coat, and clear coat. I didn’t completely remove the chrome, because the task was a bit daunting. I sanded them down with something about 600 grit (I can’t remember exactly). I ordered 2 cans of Barcelona red, 2 cans of red primer, and 2 cans of cleat coat, all from Automotive Touchup. It seemed like an affordable option with a possibility for great results… ![]() I know this is an old thread, however, I just wanted to briefly revisit it for those who are reading through old threads looking for paint match advice.Īfter a doing a lot of research, I decided that I would give this method of paint match a try. Thought I would share my experience for all you chrome-haters out there. I did not add a clear coat, and I doubt I will. This coat also removed a little bit of the orange peal look and smoothed out. It seems damn spot on in almost all light/angles. This was WAY better and I’d say like a 98% match. I ordered two cans, one for the front and once for the ass and sprayed directly over the Dupli Color. A tad pricey but in the grand scheme, super affordable. Knowing that I could paint right over the dip, I went back to looking for rattle can option and ended up settling for the 1D6 Silver Sky Metallic spray cans from Automotive Touchup. Phase 3: The not-so-color-match look was pissing me off. I thought it’s worth sharing! Turns out Plasti Dip makes a decent primer! The finished look is “orange pealy” but I don’t give a shit, its not chrome and looks good’nuff. I did not experience any pealing or cracking. Through the car wash, rain storms, hot beating sun in the parking lot, and humidity - zero issues. I rocked this look for about 6 weeks with no issues. I figured worst case, I peal it off and spray it with Plasti Dip and go back to the black look. I figured its worth a shot and I was curious as to how the spray paint would cure, dry and hold up over the dip. NOT an exact match…Ī few important notes here. In my experience, it was far too tan-ish and too light. Despite what the can says, it's NOT an exact match. If you have a Silver Sky Metallic (code 1D6) don't waste your time. I looked at vinyl wraps, aftermarket pre-painted replacement options and rattle cans. I didn't mind the black bumper look, but I wanted color match bumpers somehow. I used nearly a can for each corner, about 5 or 6 coats. Phase 1: I Plasti-Dipped both the front and rear bumpers. I wanted to share my experience and what I ultimately ended up doing. For those of you who hate chrome and are looking for an affordable and relatively easy color match option for your bumpers, check this out.
